The Xbox Games Showcase 2024 offered an exciting look at titles coming in 2024 and beyond, here’s a full recap of the event.
The Xbox Games Showcase was packed with exciting announcements and stunning reveals. It all added up to one of the best videogame showcases I've ever seen, featuring over 30 new games and hardware options for the Xbox Series X|S line-up. From the return of blockbuster franchises like Doom and Gears of War to new looks at State of Decay 3, Fable, Indiana Jones, and Perfect Dark, there was an incredible depth and breadth of experiences on display. The event also showed off the highly anticipated Starfield: Shattered Space DLC, offering first looks at adventures like South of Midnight.

But that’s not all – the showcase also brought new and deeper looks at Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater and many more. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Kicks off the Showcase
Release Date: October 25th, 2024
The Xbox Showcase started with a first look at the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 campaign set in the Gulf War era. It promises a fresh take on the series multiplayer with 12 new 6v6 maps and 4 new strike maps at launch. Xbox was very smart, putting Call of Duty at the start of the showcase, having Phil Spencer discuss Black Ops 6 coming to Game Pass day one, and content parity across all platforms offered some strong messaging.
DOOM: The Dark Ages
Release Date: 2025
The “medieval DOOM” rumours were true; the series is set to move to a time before the events of “DOOM Eternal,” featuring a blend of swords and chainsaw shields with traditional first-person shooter action. The game promises a brutal demon-slaying experience set in a pre-Eternal era, focusing on melee combat and strategic use of weapons. It’s set to launch in 2025 on Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PS5.
State of Decay 3
Release Date: TBD
Set years after a zombie apocalypse, the third entry in the series looks to continue the franchise’s legacy of community survival and resource management. Players will face the ongoing zombie threat, striving to reclaim lost ground and build a life for their community of homesteaders. We got a mostly cinematic look at the new game, but seeing the series back with a very moody and emotionally heavy tone is great.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Release Date: Fall 2024
Prepare to rally the Veilguard and defy the gods. The game promises a narrative-driven experience with strategic combat and character development, set to release in Autumn 2024 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Starfield: Shattered Space
Release Date: TBD 2024
Shattered Space looks to expand on your interstellar adventures in Starfield. Set in the mysterious city of Dazra on House Va’Ruun’s hidden home world, players will investigate a cosmic threat, explore new planets, and discover unique weapons and gear. This expansion looks to deepen the Starfield universe with a deeper narrative and expanded gameplay.
Fallout 76: Skyline Valley
Release Date: June 12th, 2024
The latest expansion to Fallout 76, "Skyline Valley" will offer a new region, Shenandoah, expanding the map southward and allowing players to explore new areas and challenges. The expansion also includes the ability to play as a Ghoul starting in early 2025, adding a new dynamic to the gameplay. Players can expect to investigate the cause of an electrical storm circling overhead and uncover the mysteries surrounding Vault 63, where they will meet its dwellers and discover a new Ghoul type known as "The Lost".
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Release Date: TBD 2025
This stunning-looking turn-based RPG invites players to lead an expedition on a desperate adventure to destroy the Paintress before she erases the last survivors of humanity. Set in a beautiful, surrealist world inspired by France’s La Belle Epoque, players will explore Lumière, the last city of humanity, where everyone knows their age of death. The game features a unique reactive turn-based battle system and will be available on Xbox Series X|S in 2025, day one with Xbox Game Pass.
South of Midnight
Release Date: TBD 2025
Set in a fantastical world inspired by the Louisiana Bayou, South of Midnight puts you in the shoes of Hazel, who has the unique ability of Weaving, allowing her to manipulate the fabric of reality. After a devastating hurricane, Hazel embarks on a journey to restore balance to her world, encountering mythical creatures and unravelling the mysteries of her powers.
World of Warcraft: The War Within
Release Date: August 26th, 2024
The tenth expansion for the iconic MMORPG is set to release on August 26, 2024. This expansion marks the beginning of the Worldsoul Saga and promises to deliver an epic narrative and new adventures for players. The cinematic trailer revealed a dramatic new storyline that will take players on a journey through Azeroth as they face the final battle.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
Release Date: TBD
The highly anticipated remake of the classic stealth-action game arrived on the Xbox Showcase stage looking better than ever. The trailer gave us a deeper look at gameplay and the title’s stunning visuals, powered by Unreal Engine 5, Snake has never looked better.
Sea of Thieves Season 13
Release Date: July 25th, 2024
Set to launch on July 25, this season introduces a new event where players can seize Flameheart’s powerful flagship. This all-new type of World Event allows players to rain fire on their foes with a skeleton crew at their command, seeking Tribute and reaping the rewards of their dastardly deeds. It’s an opportunity for players to embrace their villainous side and engage in thrilling battles on the high seas.
Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn
Release Date: July 18th, 2024
Players will take on the role of Nor Vanek, a Flintlock weapons expert, as she teams up with a fox-like creature, Enki, to embark on a quest to kill all gods and bring vengeance and redemption.
Age of Mythology: Retold
Release Date: September 4th, 2024
Combining the best elements of the original Age of Mythology with modern design and visuals, “Retold” offers a fresh experience for both old fans and new players. You can secure your domain, command legendary monsters, and call upon the power of the gods to crush enemies.
Perfect Dark
Release Date: TBD
The highly anticipated reboot of the classic first-person shooter stepped out of Developed by The Initiative and Crystal Dynamics, the game is set in a near-future world and follows the adventures of Agent Joanna Dark. The official gameplay trailer revealed a new take on the iconic series, with stunning visuals and gameplay that showcases Agent Dark’s spy skills.
Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred
Release Date: October 8th, 2024
The cinematic trailer showed off the dark and brutal themes that fans can expect in the DLC. The story picks up from where Diablo IV left off, focusing on the relationship between Neyrelle and her mother, Vhenard. Blizzard Entertainment will bring players to the lush jungles of Nahantu with this expansion.
Fable
Release Date: TBD 2025
The surprise second look at Fable emphasized the game’s full immersion into magic, fairytale characters, and signature humour. Set to release in 2025, “Fable” invites players to explore the world of Albion and make choices that will shape their journey and the fate of the land.
Fragpunk
Release Date: TBD
The new 5v5 hero shooter features a unique gameplay mechanic with power-up cards that can change combat rules, adding a dynamic twist to each match. Players can choose from various heroes, weapons, and over 70 cards across four different maps, ensuring that every round is fresh and exciting. The game aims to offer a fast-paced, rule-bending experience that keeps players on their toes.
Winter Burrow
Release Date: Early 2025
Developed by Noodlecake and Pine Creek Games, Winter Burrow is described as a “cozy woodland survival game.” The game follows the story of a little mouse who must find the courage to survive a harsh winter, make their tree stump home cozy again, and search for their lost Aunt. So far, its charming gameplay and heartwarming narrative have won me over, I can’t wait to try this out.
Mixtape
Release Date: TBD 2025
The narrative-driven adventure has players experience a mixtape of memories through the eyes of three friends on their last night of high school. The game features a soundtrack that includes music from iconic bands like DEVO, Roxy Music, Smashing Pumpkins and Joy Division, enhancing the nostalgic and emotional journey. The gameplay appears to be a series of vignettes that explore pivotal moments in the characters’ lives.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
Release Date: November 19th, 2024
MS Flight Sim 2024 will introduce a variety of new jobs to the game, allowing players to experience a wide range of aviation careers. From piloting commercial airlines to engaging in Red Bull air racing, the game will offer more than a dozen jobs, including aerial ambulances, advertisers, VIP charter captains, and more. You can take on roles such as firefighting, search and rescue operations, remote cargo operations, and even deer photography from the skies. With these new career paths, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 aims to provide an immersive and realistic simulation of the aviation industry and adds more things to do in the skies.
Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road

The Gold Road expansion introduces a new chapter set in the West Weald, featuring the return of Daedric Prince Ithelia and the threat of Valenwood’s encroachment. Players will explore new areas, defend Skingrad, and explore ancient ruins. The expansion also introduces Scribing, a system for customizing magical abilities, and the Lucent Citadel, a new 12-person trial.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure
Release Date: October 29th, 2024
The upcoming supernatural murder mystery is part of the “Life is Strange” series, this time around players will follow Max Caulfield, a photographer at Caledon University, as she uncovers a murder and uses her time-rewinding abilities to navigate between two timelines to solve the mystery.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
Release Date: TBD 2024
The latest look at the game offered a snowy showdown in the Himalayas, where Indy and his companion find themselves trapped by Nazi forces. The game promises to take players on an adventure through various locations as they uncover the secrets of the Great Circle.
Mecha Break
Release Date: TBD 2025
The game features a variety of mechas that players can customize and battle. A closed beta test for Xbox Series X|S is scheduled for August 2024. The glimpse of the gameplay trailer showcased the intense action and customization options that players can expect from the experience.
Wuchang Fallen Feathers
Release Date: TBD 2025
The upcoming action-RPG follows Bai Wuchang, a pirate warrior cursed with Ornithropy, as she navigates a cursed land filled with danger and mystery. Players can expect a souls-like experience with challenging gameplay and a rich narrative set against the backdrop of the Ming Dynasty era.
Avowed
Release Date: TBD 2024
The latest look at Avowed during the showcase revealed more about its story and characters, in the world of Eora.
Atomfall
Release Window: TBD 2025
The very first look at the game showed a post-apocalyptic 1950s Britain following a disaster. Players will explore, scavenge, craft, barter, and fight their way through the devastated landscape in search of answers.
Assassin’s Creed Shadow
Release Date: November 15th, 2024
Assassin’s Creed Shadows appeared, showing off its beautiful visuals and distinct gameplay styles of leading characters Naoe and Yasuk. The showcase delved further into the stealthy shinobi and tank-like samurai characters, showcasing their unique abilities and combat styles in feudal Japan.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl
Release Date: September 5th, 2024
The newest look at S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 emphasized the game’s dark themes and mysterious atmosphere, promising another brutal tour of the Chornobyl dead zone. It’s clear that GSC Game World aims to deliver a high-fidelity sequel that stays true to the series’ roots.
New Line Up of Xbox Series X|S Consoles Announced
Microsoft unveiled a refreshed Xbox Series X|S console family lineup. The Xbox Series S now comes in a 1TB Robot White model, boasting double the storage capacity of its predecessor. The Xbox Series X – 1TB Digital Edition also in a sharp Robot White caters to digital enthusiasts with a 1TB SSD, and no disc drive. On the high-end of the hardware offerings is the stunning looking Xbox Series X – 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition with a 2TB SSD and a design inspired by the night sky. These new models offer more storage space and different options for gamers.
Gears of War: E-Day

Sarah Bond, President of Xbox at Microsoft, offered up a “one more thing…” to cap off the stellar Xbox Showcase. Familiar faces and worn-out places returned to bring us back to the harrowing events of Emergence Day through the eyes of Marcus Fenix. This prequel to the series introduces us to a younger Marcus and Dom Santiago as they confront the terrifying Locust Horde for the first time. The short trailer promises an origin story filled with brutal combat and intense action, set against the backdrop of the world’s first encounter with these subterranean monsters. It’s a pivotal moment that sets the stage for the entire Gears of War saga, and fans can expect a gripping narrative that stays true to the franchise’s roots while leveraging modern technology to deliver an immersive experience.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct
Even after all these announcements, Xbox still had the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct to follow up the main showcase. I have all the news here, but it, too, was a very strong showing that used elements from its previous Developer_Direct showcases.
