Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Everything You Need to Know

New information around Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 has arrived, here's a rundown of all the latest news.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is one of the most anticipated games of 2023, and for good reason. The sequel to the critically acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales looks to deliver an epic adventure that will let you play as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, while facing off against iconic villains like Kraven the Hunter, Lizard and Venom. The game also packs an expansive rendition of New York City double the size of the original game. Between PlayStation’s Latest State of Play and preview events in Los Angeles and London, there has been a slew of new information about the game. Here are some of the biggest developments around the game that you should know about ahead it’s launch on October 20th, 2023.

A tale of two Spideys

Spider-Man 2 will let you switch between Peter Parker and Miles Morales at any time in the open world. The exception is for certain story missions that will require you to play as one character or the other. Both heroes will have their own unique storylines, missions, skills, and gadgets, but they will also share some common activities, upgrades, and challenges. According to Insomniac Games, the developers of the game, the character switching will be fast and seamless thanks to the PS5 console’s SSD, and there will be some fun character moments as perspectives shift.

A greater Spidey move set

Evolved move-sets with backstory: Peter Parker and Miles Morales will have different combat styles and abilities that reflect their personalities and experiences. Peter will use his four mechanized Spider-Arms as his default loadout, which he acquired for reasons that will be explained in the game. He will also have access to his classic web-shooters and other gadgets that he invented himself. Miles, on the other hand, will rely on his bioelectricity and camouflage powers that he developed in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, as well as his own web-shooters and gadgets that he learned from Peter.

Spider-Man 2 offers a spectacular Spidey wardrobe

One of the most fun aspects of playing as Spider-Men is being able to hunt down and wear different suits. Spider-Man 2 will feature 65 different suits that you can collect and wear, ranging from new original designs to fan favourites from movies and comics. You can also customize some of the suits with the Suit Styles system, a new feature that lets you change the colour scheme of the suits. This way, you can have over 200 different looks for your Spider-heroes. Some of these suits will be available as pre-order bonuses or exclusive to certain editions of the game, while others will be earned through gameplay or purchased with in-game currency. Each suit will have its own unique look and feel, as well as special abilities or modifiers that will enhance your gameplay. Some of the suits will also have special animations or sound effects that will make you feel like you are playing as a different version of Spider-Man.

A bigger and better New York City

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will take full advantage of the PS5 console’s power and features to create a more immersive and realistic version of New York City. According to the PlayStation Blog, the game will feature ray tracing, dynamic lighting and shadows, improved textures and animations, faster loading times, adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and 3D audio. The game will also expand the map to include new areas such as Harlem, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island, as well as new landmarks, activities, crimes, collectibles, secrets, and easter eggs.

An interwoven superhero story

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will continue the story of Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they balance their personal lives with their superhero duties. The game will introduce new characters such as Sergei Kravinoff aka Kraven the Hunter, a ruthless hunter who is looking for worthy prey. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is shaping up to be an amazing game that will satisfy fans of both Spider-Man and video games. If you are excited about this game as much as we are, make sure to pre-order it now and get ready for its release on October 20, 2023.
