Discovery Tour: Viking Age Coming This October

Take a deep dive into Viking and Anglo-Saxon history through the lens of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Today Ubisoft announced that Discovery Tour: Viking Age, an educational experience, will release on October 19th, 2021. The Discovery Tour experience allows players to explore and interact with the history and culture of the Viking Age world. As a history buff, I have always been drawn to the Assassin’s Creed series with its realistic historical settings paired with engaging fictional storylines. Ubisoft has created “The Discovery Tours” as a non-violent, scientifically validated educational experiences that dive deeper into the factual history of the era. Ubisoft Montréal has accomplished this by working in close collaboration with historians, archeologists, and academics to achieve this.

Discovery Tour’s supported platforms and roll out

The add-on will be free for all owners of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and will be available on the same platforms as the main game. The PC standalone version of Discovery Tour: Viking Age will be available via Ubisoft Connect and on the Epic Games Store for $24.99.

For the very first time in the Discovery Tour franchise, Discovery Tour: Viking Age will also release as a standalone on Stadia, Luna, PlayStation®4, PlayStation®5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S | X in early 2022.

The Discovery Tour lineage

Following Discovery Tour: Ancient Egypt and Discovery Tour: Ancient Greece, this brand-new chapter of the Assassin’s Creed educational expansion will shed light on the Viking era and allow players to discover more about the history and traditions of the time. Designed in close collaboration with historians and archaeologists, this learning experience is an engaging deep dive into the Viking Age in ninth-century Norway and England.

A new narrative experience

The Ubisoft Montreal development team has changed the formula to make the journey even more fun and informative by putting the narrative and storytelling at the heart of the experience. Players will be able to step into the shoes of Viking and Anglo-Saxon characters from the time while living out their stories and adventures and interacting with the world around them.

Historical authenticity in your adventure

Since its beginnings, the Discovery Tour Team has worked with a wide variety of partners, from experts to historians. This iteration is no different, with the immersive approach of Discovery Tour: Viking Age inspiring several collaborations with museum partners resulting in contributions of images of real artefacts within the experience. These partners include Hampshire Cultural Trust (HCT), The British Library, The Réunion des Musées Nationaux, York Archaeological Trust and The National Museum of Denmark, Nationalmuseet.
