Along with multiple new teases around the game, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was also confirmed to arrive on Xbox Game Pass on Day One.
Today, the veil continued to be pulled back on the next chapter of the Call of Duty series. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 looks to offer its own mind-altering version of the events that surrounded the Gulf War. The brand-new live-action trailer offered a look at the dark, cloak-and-dagger world the game looks to establish. It also featured major political figures like Bill Clinton, George Bush Sr., Margaret Thatcher and Saddam Hussein. It’s unclear how and to what extent this real-life cast will be used, but it confirms the era we’ll be deploying. Another big piece of information revealed was the official confirmation that Black Ops 6 will arrive on Xbox Game Pass day one.

Call of Duty Black Ops 6 development cycle
The unofficial story of the game began in November 2023, when whispers of a new Black Ops game set during the Gulf War surfaced. Treyarch and Raven Software co-developed the game, which marks it as the twenty-first installment of the Call of Duty series and the seventh entry in the Black Ops sub-series. One impressive moniker the game already carries is Black Ops 6, which boasts the longest development cycle in Call of Duty history, spanning four years. It’s rumoured Treyarch has been play-testing since 2022, looking to provide a polished experience that meets the high bar set from earlier entries in the Black Ops line of games.
Black Ops 6 slowly emerges from the shadows
The first official tease came on April 30th, 2024, with Microsoft announcing an Xbox Games Showcase event set for June 9th, 2024. After the main Xbox Games showcase, there will be a dedicated separate show offering a deep look at the next installment in the Call of Duty franchise. At this point, it's all speculation about what will be shown, but it's safe to say we’ll get an extended look at gameplay, some multiplayer features and a release date.
